Hypnosis, Self-Hypnosis, and Binaural Beats: What Are You Looking For?
Maybe you have tried everything in the self-help category…multiple books, scrolling the self-help guru websites, doing your part such as relaxing, visualizing, affirming, but you are stuck. Perhaps you’ve heard of hypnosis but are hesitant. Is it okay for you?
The practice of, actually the art of, hypnosis used in hypnotherapy is the most misunderstood scientific tool on earth.
The Pros of Hypnosis
You are always conscious in the hypnotic state.
You can stop it at any time.
You hear doorbells and phone rings (therefore, it's a good idea to unplug).
It is safe when using a Certified Hypnotherapist.
If you have a pre-existing medical mental health condition, a Certified Hypnotherapist will require permission from your doctor.
It works, and it works well. Sometimes with only one session.
The Cons of Hypnosis
The most common negative associated with it is the misconception held by erroneous and outdated views about hypnotherapy (like being uncontrollably forced to bark like a dog).
How It Works:
Your professional hypnotherapist takes you via Induction into a highly suggestible state of relaxation and hypnosis.
Once you are in a state of hypnosis, the hypnotherapist will take you on a journey and will give suggestions to your subconscious mind about what you desire to manifest. Your problems and desires have been discussed with your hypnotherapist in an Intake session before your first hypnosis session.
How do Binaural Beats Work in Hypnosis?
In the wonderful new neuroscience fields exploring brainwaves and the brain itself, it has been discovered that binaural beats can help people to relax.
Binaural beats are an illusion of sorts. A hypnotist may use binaural beats during induction by playing specific audio frequencies through headphones using a recording. Each ear receives a different tone at the same time, and then the brain recognizes a single beat. It seems to help the brain and the client focus on a more relaxed state.
These beats synchronize with brainwaves and resets them to produce the effect you are looking for in specific brainwaves. Relaxation is necessary to tone down the activity of the conscious mind so that during hypnosis, positive suggestions can be given to the subconscious mind.
As the hypnotherapist performs the induction to the client, at some point, listening to the binaural beats will be included, then the hypnotherapists will continue with the suggestions to the subconscious. Binaural beats are believed to help the hypnotherapists take a client into a deeper state of hypnosis so that these positive suggestions can be given to the client.
Why Is This Helpful?
This is helpful because in the relaxed state of body and mind, the suggestions put to the client are better ‘heard’ by the subconscious mind.
The beauty of hypnosis and working with the subconscious mind is that the subconscious mind does not judge, question, reason, argue or criticize. It accepts and then reflects.
What About Self-Hypnosis and Binaural Beats?
A trained hypnotherapist will be able to help you relax and instill positive suggestions in your subconscious mind. But if you would prefer to try it yourself, self-hypnosis is a great option and can be very effective. The following will give you a simple idea of steps in self-hypnosis.
Step One: Relaxation
Relaxing the body and mind are essential and are done simultaneously. Isn’t it true that it is hard to relax the body when you are worried, agitated, frustrated, or sad? Breathe in, hold, and breathe out. Drop your shoulders. Mentally, see a blanket of warm light wrapped around your body, and you can just relax your body into this blanket. Using your stereo headphones, play the recording of binaural beats you have chosen.
Step Two: Induction
These modern induction techniques will include counting of breaths, counting numbers forwards and backwards, imagination, and going ‘deeper down’ into hypnosis. Now, begin counting out loud very softly backwards from 100, taking a deep breath in between each count, and as you are counting, visualize the number written on a whiteboard, and then watch each number as it slowly dissolves and completely disappears. Then, imagine the next number appearing, and then it slowly dissolves and disappears, then keep counting backwards until you begin to feel very, very relaxed. Keep your focus on the whiteboard. Now you are feeling relaxed and are no longer interested in the numbers.
Step Three: Imagine a Journey
After induction, you will take yourself on a journey of choices. For the example of weight control, you will find yourself in a grocery store with food aisles. You will affirm you are making the right choice and will be proud of your choices. If you want to manifest a new car, take yourself on a journey to the dealership, choose the vehicle of your choice and color, and see yourself driving out of the dealership.
Step Four: Direct Suggestion
After you are in deep hypnosis, you will be ready and eager to instill positive thoughts and suggestions into your subconscious mind. This is the time for direct suggestion.
This will include giving to yourself suggestions relating to your goals. Direct suggestion is speaking directly to your subconscious mind while under hypnosis. For example, if you are looking to lose or manage your weight, an example is, “I always choose the right foods. I choose to eat my meals at the correct times of the day for me. I no longer need sugar to sustain my body. I look forward to reaching my desired weight goal soon.”
Step Five: Emerging From Hypnosis
This includes a process of slowly counting as you emerge number by number from 1 to 10. Be sure to give yourself time to adjust back to the present. When you reach ten, you will be fully emerged and feel great.
Hypnosis Might Be the Answer You’re Looking For
Using self-hypnosis or the services of a trained hypnotherapist combined with binaural beats can be a game changer for you. The results are startling, often dramatic, and relatively speaking, very fast.
